Steve Slaton - RB - Texans Slaton could lose 10-12 touches per game?
Coach Gary Kubiak was reportedly unhappy with the running game in preseason action. Beat writers and coaches always overestimate carry numbers, so the number could be closer to 8-10 per game. Still, if the Texans use Brown similar to the way they used Ahman Green last season, it's a significant drain on Slaton's value. September 10

Slaton lost another fumble in Sunday's win over the Bengals and has now fumbled five times in six games. Chris Brown replaced Slaton immediately after his latest fumble, but Kubiak said he thought Brown was the better back to run out the clock.

He'll be a fantasy asset as long as he remains active in the passing game.

Kubiak figures to ride the hot hand, and Ryan Moats has it now. Steve Slaton should remain involved in some capacity because he's the club's best bet for big plays, but his workload threatens to diminish significantly after losing five fumbles in the first eight games. "I told him to keep his chin up," Kubiak said of Slaton. "We're going to need him." Still, take a wait-and-see approach with this backfield in Week 9 against Indianapolis.

Holzman got the news from Texans coach Gary Kubiak, and relayed it to Adam Schefter. The news isn't a shock, but certainly helps Moats' fantasy value in a decent matchup against the Colts. Steve Slaton and Chris Brown will both likely be heavily involved, so Moats is a good, not great, flex option.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Owners should hardly give up on Slaton because of the news. He should still get the ball plenty Sunday, although he's not a recommended flex option this week. It would surprise us if Slaton doesn't regain the starting job this season and still provide some big fantasy weeks.

Steve Slaton - RB - Texans Texans coach Gary Kubiak called his backfield situation "a day-to-day deal" Tuesday, reiterating that he'll need all three backs.
"I want to see how Steve responds and comes back from this break. I want to see how Ryan responds and Chris being as fresh as he can be," said Kubiak. For now, we're expecting the Texans to ride the hot hand if one emerges. If not, Moats will work on early downs with Slaton coming on in passing situations. November 10

We thought that Slaton would have to prove he can hold on to the ball before getting his starting job back, but coach Gary Kubiak is apparently convinced. Slaton's role was due to grow anyway because he's clearly their best back, but this a great sign that he has his coach's confidence. Look for Slaton to still share carries with Chris Brown and Ryan Moats, but we like him as a solid flex play this week.

Slaton (neck) practiced fully on Friday and is listed as probable for the game.
However, Kubiak didn't say so until pressed, and reiterated that Slaton will "split time" with usual short-yardage back Chris Brown. While this does confirm that Slaton's neck injury won't threaten his availability, he's not a good bet for more than 15 touches Sunday. He's only an option in PPR leagues.

Slaton (questionable, neck) was unable to practice on Friday.
Chris Brown will start, with Ryan Moats next in line for carries. Slaton has numbness in his arms related to a previously undisclosed injury. "It's something he has been dealing with for awhile but it's gotten worse in the last 24 hours," coach Gary Kubiak revealed. The Jaguars are No. 10 against the run. Expect a decidedly pass-first game plan Sunday from Houston.

Slaton has numbness in one of his arms related to a previous injury, so Chris Brown will get the start with Ryan Moats in relief. Brown isn't much of a fantasy option, as Matt Schaub and the Texans will try to pick apart a Jaguars secondary that won't have top CB Rashean Mathis.

This guy has killed me this year. It looks like they figured out why he fumbles so much though.

Steve Slaton - RB - Texans Steve Slaton will visit with a specialist Tuesday to receive another opinion about his neck/shoulder injury.
The Texans say Slaton's injury isn't serious, but he was inactive for Week 13 and is uncertain to face Seattle in Week 14. With Slaton out on Sunday, Chris Brown started but Ryan Moats got nearly twice as many touches. December 7

Slaton visited a spine specialist about the numbness in his shoulder on Tuesday and obviously got bad news. With Slaton inactive last week, Ryan Moats rushed 12 times and was targeted three times in the passing game. He'll share snaps with Chris Brown for the rest of the season. Slaton's long-term prognosis is unknown, but the Texans will upgrade the position in the draft and/or free agency. He's not much of a buy low in dynasty leagues.
